Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday Karl Lagerfeld! (September 10, 1933). Uncle Karl is 76 years-young today. Today is a holy day. We wear all black and fast for a full 24 hours in Karl's honor. If you feel like you might faint, you can have a sip of Diet Coke.

"There is no Chanel collection without black. It will never exist. Who can live without some black clothes?"

"That’s why I sleep alone. My hair is curly, and that’s why I have my ponytail. I look like a madman, like something out of a horror movie! But I'm very impeccable and clean before I go to bed. It’s just like right before I’m going out. When I was a child, my mother always told me that you could wake up in the middle of the night and be deathly sick, so you always have to be impeccable. I laugh about it now, but I think everyone should go to bed like they have a date at the door."
- Karl Lagerfeld, on what he looks like when he goes to bed and wakes up in the morning.

Sneak Peak

I've already shown you a behind-the-scenes look into Louis Vuitton's Spring 2009 campaign. Now here's a revealing peek into Chanel's. Here, Karl is behind the camera photographing Heidi Mount in his six-bedroom Vermont home. He says, "I love this house. It is so Emily Dickinson."

Stunning, per usual.

Quote of the Day

In an interview to the Telegraph, the demi-god Karl Lagerfeld defends the fur industry:

"In a meat-eating world, wearing leather for shoes and even clothes and handbags, the discussion of fur is childish."
